KET Supports the Mission of WHEF
The following is a letter of support from Kentucky Educational Television composed on January 30, 2018:
I am writing to express KET Education’s support for The Pageant of America project proposed by the Witnessing History Education Foundation, Inc., which will create documentaries and educational materials relating to American history from colonial times through the Civil War. As a public media developer ofP-20 instructional materials for 50 years, we share the Foundation’s goal of creating high quality and engaging resources for students and teachers.
After reviewing the Foundation’s proposal and talking with Kent Masterson Brown about the plans for accompanying educational resources, our Education team believes that these new materials will be very useful to classroom teachers and will interest and inspire students. There is a great need for resources that provide accurate information and stimulate thoughtful discussion of events and issues in American history, and the Foundation is committed to meeting that need, as well as to delivering resources in the digital format that today’s classrooms require.
Mr. Brown’s previous history documentaries that have been presented by KET demonstrate his high standards as well as his passion for history, and The Pageant of America will significantly expand the educational facet of his work. We anticipate that these will be excellent resources for KET to distribute through PBS LearningMedia, the national public media repository of digital educational resources that serves more than 1.8 million users nationwide. KET is a leading content provider for PBS LearningMedia, and we are delighted when we can work with partners such as the Witnessing History Education Foundation to give teachers and students access to the very best classroom materials. We hope that The Pageant of America will receive the funding support needed to make this exceptional project a reality.
